Yusuf / Cat Stevens releases reimagined 'Father and Son'

Yusuf / Cat Stevens has released a new version of his 1970 song, 'Father and Son', as part of his upcoming anniversary album, Tea for the Tillerman². As part of the song's release, Yusuf / Cat Stevens has also revealed the video for the song. Like an earlier release of 'Where Do the Children Play?', the video uses stop-motion animation, offering the chance to build the narrative that Yusuf had imagined. In a statement Yusuf / Cat Stevens drew on the relevance of the song today:

'Father and Son' feels pretty appropriate for what's going on right now, if you take the father figure as being the establishment. However, I don't think revolutions are that kind to the previous order, its main objective is to turn it around and to get rid of them. Whereas I don't personally believe in that; I believe in a kind of a change that would not necessarily destroy everything.'

The reimagined releases of some of his most loved songs are part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of his 1970 album, Tea for the Tillerman, with Tea for the Tillerman² set for release on 18th September. Also marking this important anniversary, Genesis Publications and Yusuf / Cat Stevens will publish a signed limited edition book, tentatively titled, Cat Stevens, 1970-'71. The book will feature lyrics, photographs, illustrations and the recollections of Yusuf / Cat Steven, celebrating three ground-breaking albums: Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat.
