Ronnie Wood announces a tribute to Jimmy Reed with new album, Mr. Luck

Ronnie Wood announced earlier this week that he's set to release a Jimmy Reed tribute album, honouring the electric blues pioneer with a multitude of covers.

The album was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall alongside ex-Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, who joined The Ronnie Wood Band for a string of concerts in November 2013. It concluded with an intimate gig at The Cutting Room in New York, a 500-capacity venue where Wood told the audience Reed's "Shame, Shame, Shame" was one of the first records he'd ever bought.

After the announcement, singles "Good Lover" and "Baby What You Want Me To Do" were released onto streaming platforms. The album has a total of 18 tracks and features guests including Bobby Womack, Mick Hucknall and Paul Weller.

Mr. Luck - A Tribute to Jimmy Reed: Live at the Royal Albert Hall is released on September 3 and follows Mad Lad: A Live Tribute to Chuck Berry, the 2019 album which paid homage to the "Johnny B. Goode" musician. Wood previously revealed his plans to record a series of three albums that honour those who shaped his music, Jimmy Reed being the second musician in the trilogy.

The Rolling Stones have spoken at length about the influence blues music has had on the band, from their name, inspired by the Muddy Waters song "Rollin' Stone," to the volume of Jimmy Reed songs the band covered early in their career. In 2018, the band curated an album of blues songs that inspired them over the years, which included Jimmy Reed and B.B King.

When speaking about the new album, Wood discussed the influence of Reed: "Jimmy Reed was one of the premier influences on the Rolling Stones and all the bands that love American blues from that era until the present day. It is my honour to have the opportunity to celebrate his life and legacy with this tribute."

Ronnie Wood, who has been producing artwork for decades, also created the albums' cover image. In 2018, he released The Rolling Stones Set Lists, a limited-edition book which contains over 100 set lists painted by Wood.
