On the 20th of March, Dark Horse Records will be releasing a re-issue of George Harrison’s Live in Japan album. Originally released in July 1992 following a 1991 ‘Rock Legends’ tour of Japan, Live in Japan was recorded primarily at the Tokyo Dome and the Osaka-jo Hall, supported by Eric Clapton and The Eric Clapton Band. Comprising a mixture of The Beatles’ originals and Harrison’s own solo material alongside a short set of Clapton’s own songs, this was both George Harrison’s first and final tour after a seventeen-year long break.
First published in 1993, Genesis Publications’ limited edition of Live in Japan was one of our earlier publications. With first edition copies signed by George Harrison, a foreword by Eric Clapton, and subsequent chapters from each member of Eric Clapton’s band, the limited edition also features almost 500 previously unpublished photographs and a full tour itinerary.
Including George’s personal recollections, memories of time on the road with The Beatles and his thoughts and feelings on returning to live tours after such a long absence, this was George and Eric’s first appearance together since ‘The Concert for Bangladesh’ in 1971. Live in Japan not only revealed private moments behind the scenes, at sound check, on stage and on the road, but also the lives and friendship of two musical giants.
Each Deluxe edition was accompanied by a double CD with original artwork and a total of 19 live tracks. A souvenir pack containing laminated ‘After Show’ passes was also included, alongside a selection of Eric and George’s guitar picks.
