Psychedelic Renegades: Mick Rock Photography Exhibition

Zoltar the Magnificent of Marshal Street, London is presenting the first ever exhibition of photographer Mick Rock's portraits of Syd Barrett, the enigmatic founder of Pink Floyd.

Rock provided the inimitable images for the cover of 'Raw Power' by The Stooges, Lou Reed's 'Transformer' and Queen's 'Queen II' album cover which was later copied in the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' video; his back catalogue is the indispensable photographic history of pop culture, brilliantly capturing countless portraits of 20th century iconoclasts and Rock and Roll performers. His recently published (by Genesis Publications) collaboration with David Bowie, Moonage Daydream marries 15,000 of Bowies' words with 659 of Rock's iconic Ziggy Stardust photographs.

The photographs of Syd Barrett taken between 1969 and 1972 capture the man after his departure from Pink Floyd and embody the spirit of London long past but not forgotten. Syd Barrett's history has often been viewed as tragic but as these previously unseen pictures document, Barrett was his own man with his own inimitable style, vision and unique creative perspective. Syd Barrett and friend, the photographer Mick Rock, were doubtless ahead of their times and beyond their years. These photographs can also be seen in the Genesis published Psychedelic Renegades.

This Summer Mick travels to Japan for a major retrospective of his work showing at the Tokyo Museum of modern Photography which will go on to tour Singapore, Korea and Hong Kong. He then returns to the UK for a series of academic lectures including a forthcoming exhibition of his material at the Institute for Contemporary Arts in London.

Exhibition opens on June 6th everyday from 10am to 6pm. Closed on Sundays.
