Peter Jackson to Direct New Beatles Documentary

Peter Jackson is to direct a new Beatles documentary about the making of the band's final studio album, Let It Be. The award-winning director has been given 55 hours of never-released footage and audio recordings of the Beatles making the iconic album.

In a statement, Jackson said the documentary will provide 'the ultimate 'fly on the wall' experience that Beatles fans have long dreamt about'.

No release date or title has yet been announced, but it will be made with the cooperation of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as John Lennon's wife Yoko Ono and George Harrison's wife Olivia Harrison.

The documentary will be produced through Apple Corps Ltd and Jackson's WingNut Films Ltd.

The footage was originally captured by Michael Lindsay-Hogg between 2nd January and 31st January 1969. Lindsay-Hogg's project later became the 1970 documentary, Let It Be, which featured the Beatles memorable performance on the roof of the Apple Corps headquarters in London on 30th January 1969.
