Mick Fleetwood's Tribute Concert for Peter Green

Mick Fleetwood and a line-up of legendary friends paid tribute to the music of Fleetwood Mac's founder Peter Green in a concert last night at the London Palladium.

The show featured Fleetwood Mac group members both past and present - Neil Finn, Christine McVie, Rick Vito, Ricky Peterson, and even Jeremy Spencer, appearing onstage with Fleetwood for the first time in 50 years - as well as a host of special guests. They included Kirk Hammett, Noel Gallagher, Billy Gibbons, David Gilmour, John Mayall, Steven Tyler, Pete Townshend and Bill Wyman. Backed by Fleetwood on drums and percussion throughout, support was also provided by Andy Fairweather Low on rhythm guitar, Dave Bronze on bass, Zak Starkey on drums and percussion, and Johnny Lang on guitar and vocals.

"The concert is a celebration of those early blues days where we all began," Fleetwood said. "And it's important to recognize the profound impact Peter and the early Fleetwood Mac had on the world of music. Peter was my greatest mentor and it gives me such joy to pay tribute to his incredible talent. I am honoured to be sharing the stage with some of the many artists Peter has inspired over the years and who share my great respect for this remarkable musician."

Following Fleetwood's introductory remarks, the concert, in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, powered through the songs of Fleetwood Mac's early years. It was an impressive and moving show. Genesis subscribers will recall how this era is brought vividly to life in Mick Fleetwood's recent edition Love That Burns, also dedicated to Peter Green, and indeed the book's pages provided the visual backdrop for the concert.

A Deluxe boxed set of the evening is scheduled to follow in October from BMG.
