Jim Marshall 1923-2012
Jim Marshall, creator of the legendary Marshall amps, diedon Thursday 5
th April aged 88. His company, which celebrates its 50
th anniversary this year, provides amplifiers to the biggest names in musichistory including
The Who,
Eric Clapton,
Jimmy Page and
Jimi Hendrix.
The 'Father of Loud' began building amplifiers in the early60s and, encouraged by customer Pete Townshend, developed his own amp with arougher, rockier sound than the more expensive alternatives. This amp grantedPete Townshend's request for something 'bigger and louder' and would helpdefine the rock guitar sound of generations to come.
