As part of Fender's continuing Artist Series, that has previously featured collaborations with guitarists such as Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, Fender's latest release is the Tom Morello Stratocaster. The Stratocaster is based on the guitar that Tom predominantly used during his multi-platinum tenure with rock supergroup Audioslave. When Tom got the guitar, he modified it by adding a toggle switch and a hot rail pickup. Fender have included these as part of the specs, including a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, a Floyd Rose tremolo system, and locking tuners. As an optional addition, Fender have even included the 'Soul Power' slogan which Tom inscribed on the body of the guitar.
'The first way I would describe my guitar sound is it's unapologetically authentic. It's me.' - Tom Morello
Tom Morello is known for his unique playing style that spans hard rock, classic rock, hip-hop, folk and everything in between. Creating a myriad of sounds, his experimentation with what the guitar can do can be heard in much of the Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave catalogue, and in his collaborations with artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Wu Tang Clan. Last year, his 'Soul Power' Stratocaster was featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's 'Play It Loud' exhibition, alongside guitars by legendary players such as Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page.
The fascinating story of Tom Morello's guitars, and the strict practicing regime that made him the guitar player he is today are told through photos and original commentary in his upcoming book with Genesis Publications, Tom Morello: Whatever It Takes. Register your interest now.
