UNCUT Magazine spotlights the upcoming bookstore edition of
Moonage Daydream, the definitive account of the rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust written by David Bowie and Mick Rock.
The six-page feature contains excerpts taken from the upcoming Genesis edition and numerous photographs by Mick Rock, including Bowie at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Oxford Town Hall and on set during the recording of the 'Jean Genie' music video.
'Ziggy turns fifty this year. In an extract from a new bookstore edition of Moonage Daydream: The Life & Times of Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie and Mick Rock's long-out-of-print 'biography' - Bowie himself recounts the brief but colourful journey of rock's greatest space invader, from his genesis in Haddon Hall to his socking exit on stage at the Hammersmith Odeon.' - UNCUT
Featured in the article, Bowie described the moment when he told Tom Ayers about his plan for Ziggy Stardust: 'I went on to explain that Ziggy wasn't going to be a real rock star and that I would play him. I think they all thought I was talking in terms of musical. It's possible that I was; it's now hard to remember what direction I had expected him to go. Zig rather grew as he grew, if you know what I mean.'
Moonage Daydream: The Life & Times of Ziggy Stardust, the Anniversary Edition, is published on June 14.
