David Bowie's Early 'Starman' Demo Sells at Auction for £41,000

An early demo of David Bowie's 'Starman', believed to be the first recording of the classic track, has sold for £41,000 at an auction last week.

The 1971 recording was made by Bowie and his guitarist Mick Ronson. On the tape Bowie can be heard telling Mick that he hasn't finished singing the song when he tries to end the recording.

The tape was given to Kevin Hutchinson, a friend of Ronson, where it was then kept in a loft for almost 50 years.

Labelled 'David Bowie Rehearsal Tape', the demo also contains recordings of 'Moonage Daydream' and 'Hang Onto Yourself'.
