David Bowie Documentary to Premiere at Cannes Film Festival

A new documentary entitled Moonage Daydream is set to premiere at Cannes Film Festival, which will run from 17-28 May.

The feature film, which combines concert footage and what is described as an 'experimental cinematic odyssey' follows David Bowie's life and music - the first of its kind to be sanctioned by Bowie's estate.

Directed by Brett Morgen, who is behind music documentaries such as Crossfire Hurricane and Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, was presented with an abundance of material from the estate in 2017. Gathered from Bowie's personal archives, it includes Bowie's master recordings and hours of never-before-seen film footage, the former mixed by the artist's long-time producer, Tony Visconti.

The film shares its name with the legendary Genesis Publications book, which is re-released as a bookstore edition next month. It was originally published as a signed limited edition in 2002, when it was described by Rolling Stone as 'The closest we'll ever get to a straight up Bowie autobiography'. It features a commentary from the musician himself and over 600 photographs by Mick Rock.

'This is a book of extraordinary photographs. Ziggy Stardust blazed briefly but intensely, and I am delighted to see his life and times as a rock'n'roll star immortalised in this book.' - David Bowie

This uncut edition of Moonage Daydream, released in celebration of 50 years of Ziggy Stardust, presents the words and images in a new, larger format while keeping to Bowie and Rock's original vision.
