Bob Dylan Sells Rights to his Songs to Universal

In what could be one of the biggest music publishing deals, Bob Dylan has sold the rights to his entire catalogue of songs to Universal Music Group. Universal will acquire the rights to his collection of 600 songs, owning the copyright to Dylan classics including 'The Times They Are A-Changing', 'Like a Rolling Stone' and 'Hurricane'.

Jody Gerson, chief executive of Universal's publishing division, said, 'To represent the body of work of one of the greatest songwriters of all time - whose cultural importance can't be overstated - is both a privilege and a responsibility.'

The catalogue will also include Dylan's latest releases from this year, including 'Murder Most Foul' which secured Dylan his first No.1 on the US Billboard chart. The almost 17-minute ballad draws on iconic cultural references that defined the 60s and beyond, referencing Patsy Cline, Etta James, Stevie Nicks, the Beatles, and Woodstock.
