50 years ago, Janis Joplin's cover of 'Me and Bobby McGee' reached number one in the US charts. Released on 12 January 1971, Joplin became one of only two artists in the US to have a posthumous number one single, the other being Otis Redding.
As part of the continuing celebrations of Janis Joplin and the 50th Anniversary of her album Pearl, on which 'Me and Bobby McGee features, a new official video for the song has been released. Developed by director and designer Sara Serna, the video is illustrated through a series of handmade collage, cut-outs, and photographs, some of which feature in the new Genesis signed limited edition, Janis Joplin: Days and Summers.
During her career Janis kept a scrapbook, keeping a personal record of her journey and her rise to fame. Now, Janis's personal scrapbook is revealed for the first time, compiled between 1966-1968. Alongside the scrapbook, friends and those who she inspired share their memories of her extraordinary life, including 'Me and Bobby McGee' writer Kris Kristofferson. Janis Joplin: Days and Summers is available to pre-order now.
