Thoroughbreds of the Crown is a major publishing project created in co-operation with The Royal Studs at Sandringham, and presented as a collector's leather-bound limited edition book.
It presents a fascinating historical account of the Royal Studs throughout the centuries - from the Duke of Cumberland's 18th-Century Cranbourne Lodge Stud where he bred the sires Herod and the unbeaten Eclipse, from whom 98% of thoroughbreds today descend, to Her Majesty the Queen's Sandringham and Wolferton Studs which produced the hugely popular classic successes of Aureole, Dunfermline and Highclere.
Her Majesty the Queen has kindly given permission for more than 60 paintings and 150 prints and drawings from the Royal Collection to be reproduced in a remarkable history of the studs under Royal patronage from the reign of Henry VIII to that of Queen Elizabeth II.
'The production of 'Thoroughbreds of the Crown' is impeccable. It is the most informative and comprehensive book ever written about the Royal Studs - and the most beautifully illustrated.' Sir Michael Oswald KCVO
