For Ronnie Wood, music and art have always gone hand-in-hand. Ronnie has painted for the last 35 years with subjects ranging from self-portraits to other musicians, and, most evocatively, this collection of iconic Rolling Stones portraits.
'When I get inspired I get possessed almost and I just have to paint.' Ronnie Wood
For rock and art fans alike, The Famous Flames Suite is a celebration of his two creative worlds focusing on the four individual members of The Rolling Stones and a fifth piece entitled The Stones on Stage - Got Me Rockin'.
To create the original pieces Ronnie began with a photograph of each band member, manipulating and altering the image, before printing onto canvas the black and white background. The band members, shown performing in the foreground are all his own composition, painted firstly with acrylics, followed by oils and finally embellished with oil pastels. As a collection, the images blend beautifully together as the orange wave-like flame sweeps each of the infamous band members along.
A popular exhibitor in the US where Bill Clinton bought one of Wood’s Rolling Stone paintings as a 60th birthday present, his perspective and raw style has won many accolades from the artistic community.
'There is no kind of therapy like the one you have from starting and seeing a picture through. Over the years you're never quite satisfied and, like music, you're always learning and trying out new techniques.' Ronnie Wood

Painting at full throttle, and with technical prowess, Wood gives the art lover an exhilarating and thrilling front row view of the Stones on stage, as his vibrant paintings convey the electricity of a live performance. The intensity that Ronnie Wood brings to his guitar playing on stage is brilliantly echoed on canvas and paper as he translates the rawness of a Rolling Stones performance through rhythmic lines, bold colours and awesomely accurate facial expressions.
