The Show Must Go On
The Brit Awards are held tonight, 21
st February,in O2 Arena London, and will be aired on ITV1 at 8pm for British viewers.Although no Genesis contributors will be up for nomination in 2012, they havereceived their fair share of airtime and column inches in the 35 years that theannual pop awards show has been running.
Queen frontman Freddie Mercury made his last publicappearance at the 1990 Brit Awards, and two years later was posthumouslyrecognised with an Outstanding Contribution to Music prize and The FreddieMercury award created in his honour.
The Beatles and Sir George Martin dominated the firstceremony, held in 1977, and have together accumulated an impressive 9 awards.Outstanding Contribution titles have also been presented to David Bowie, Queen,Eric Clapton, The Who and Pete Townshend, with Paul Weller winning Best MaleSolo Artist 3 times in 14 years.
Ronnie Wood deserves a special mention for his work ensuringthe show went smoothly; in 2000 he prevented the sadly misinformed Dance DJBrandon Block from drunkenly accepting someone else's award by throwing a drinkin his face.
