It's been 50 years, on August 8th, 1969, since The Beatles walked single file down Abbey Road as photographer Iain Macmillan captured one of the most iconic album covers to date. In celebration of the album's 50th anniversary in September, Abbey Road is being reissued.
The album is set to come out on September 27th via Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/Ume. Abbey Road will be reissued in seven formats, the most extensive version will include 40 tracks, 17 of which have been newly mixed by the band's producer Giles Martin and mix engineer Sam Okell; the other 23 tracks will include never-before-heard session demos and recordings.
Paul McCartney wrote a foreword for the 100-page book that's coming out alongside select anniversary editions: "The Beatles recording journey had gone through many twists and turns, learning curves and thrilling rides. Here we were - still wondering at the magic of it all."
