Sir Peter Blake's Sold-out Interview at OFFSET 2009

Last Saturday afternoon, 7th November, Sir Peter Blake took to the stage at OFFSET 2009 in Dublin with interviewer Hugh Linehan to discuss his art, life and everything in between. The interview with Sir Peter was, for many, the highlight of the week long series of events. A main thread was his latest work, the collaboration with Brian Wilson and Genesis to produce THAT LUCKY OLD SUN. He described his relationship with the Beach Boy, starting with the first time he heard them play on the radio, through to the production of his early works (see 'Beach Boys' 1964) up to the present day and this fine art boxed set.

The complete interview will be available soon to listen to on Genesis-Publications.com. An insightful look into the mind of one of Britain's most famous artists, he explains how he considers himself a 'mongrel' artist, not pegging himself into the Pop Art category he undoubtedly shaped. He describes, in depth, Pop Art’s influence on the concept of the album cover we know today. From The Beatle's 'Sgt Pepper' to The Who's 'Face Dances' and Paul Weller's 'Stanley Road' he gives an incredible insight into the massive amount of work and creativity involved in the creation of such iconic pieces.

Now 77 years old and with no intent to stop working any time soon, he now labels himself as being in his 'late period'. Also discussed are his recent commissions to design a carpet for Britain's new Supreme Court and an 8ft painting for St Paul's Cathedral.
