Royal Albert Hall 150th Anniversary Film Celebrates Eric Clapton, the Who, Led Zeppelin and More

In celebration of its 150th Anniversary, the Royal Albert Hall has marked the occasion with a short film which features legendary performances, unseen concert footage and a mesmerising tour of the empty venue. Narrated by Sir Mick Jagger, who reads from WH Auden's poem For Friends Only,Your Room Will Be Ready highlights the difficult year that music venues have faced during the pandemic, but ends on looking forward to welcoming audiences again.

Craig Hasall, Chief Executive at the Royal Albert Hall commented:

'We're absolutely delighted to unveil this film, and so grateful to the many incredible creatives who have lent their efforts to the project. The film is the first event of our 150th anniversary celebrations - a tribute to live events that focuses on the light at the end of the tunnel, as we look to a route out of our enforced closure.'

The film features recent performances from Eric Clapton and the Who as well as snapshots of archive footage including Led Zeppelin's performance in 1970. For Jimmy Page, the performance at the prestigious London venue was made even more memorable as the band played on his birthday. In Jimmy Page: The Anthology he recounts the importance of the concert:

'As it was the Royal Albert Hall, it was the venue that everyone's families were going to go to. And all the UK music journalists were going to be there as well. The press had been following our meteoric rise in America and wanted to see for themselves what we were all about.'

Further information about the anniversary celebrations can be found on the Royal Albert Hall website.
