Bed-in Yoko Ono

Ringo Starr and Yoko Ono Recreate Iconic 1969 Bed-In Protest

Nearly 50 years since the first ever bed-in with John Lennon and Yoko Ono (shortly after their marriage in 1969) Yoko Ono got into bed once again for peace on September 13th.

This time, though, she was joined by fellow peace promoter and Beatles bandmate, Ringo Starr, and Academy Award-winning actor, Jeff Bridges.

Positioned in the middle of New York, the bed was just outside the City Hall in Manhattan and was in support of the Come Together: NYC campaign for New York public schools. The stars were also joined by Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson.

Marking the fifth annual Come Together: NYC event, students congregated and sang Lennon's 'Give Peace A Chance'; the event also featured poems, speeches and performances, with students carrying signs saying, 'Hair Peace', 'Bed Peace' and 'Imagine Peace'. All which added to the recreation of the iconic 1969 bed-in.

The event also marked the return of the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus as it begins its month-long residency in New York City. The Lennon Bus is a non-profit which is committed to providing students of all ages, all over the country, access to recording facilities.

During the bed-in, Yoko said, "I think that maybe John is hearing us. John, are you listening to us? Give peace a chance."
