Paul Weller has announced a new album, Fat Pop (Volume One), which will be released on 14th May. The record, which has been created during lockdown, will be Weller's 16th solo album and features his daughter Leah Weller, Andy Fairweather Low and Lia Metcalfe.
It has been less than a year since Weller's last solo album, On Sunset, which gained him the achievement of having a No.1 album for five consecutive decades, joining John Lennon and Paul McCartney who have also achieved this.
In an interview Weller described the intention behind the songs on the album:
'There's just twelve very straightforward pop songs on the album as far as I'm concerned, and they're all things that we could play live as well. So I was conscious of that.' - Paul Weller
Weller also describes the album as a 'celebration of music' and points towards being hopeful that he will soon be able to perform the album live, once the COVID-19 restrictions have eased.
Weller has released one of the tracks, 'Cosmic Fringes', as a single which is available to listen to now.
