Marley Photographer Speaks to The New Yorker
Last week readers of
The New Yorker were treated to a stunning selection of Kate Simon's iconic Bob Marley photography. Chosen to illustrate Jammin', an informed look at current cinema and, specifically, the new documentary 'Marley' which tells the story of Bob Marley as musician, revolutionary, and legend, from his early days to his rise to international superstardom. Kate provides captions to her photography, in which she discusses her friendship with Bob, giving an intimate look into the person behind the performer.
'This picture was taken before Bob was well known, and it was the first time that I photographed him. He did a run of shows at the Lyceum in London that summer, and they have since become legendary. I was completely bowled over by Bob, and completely unprepared for his brilliance. After this show, I was introduced to Bob at a reception, and we became fast friends.' - Kate Simon
