Johnny Cash's Birthday - Alan Messer Helps Celebrate
Over the weekend of February 22-24, 2008, Alan Messer joined other friends and family of Johnny Cash at the Fender Museum in Corona, California, to celebrate what would have been the Man In Black's 76th birthday.
Alan presented a small selection of the photographs that will be included in his forthcoming limited edition book by Genesis Publications. The audience of more than 200 were also treated to Alan's many anecdotes and memories from nearly three decades of photographing one of modern music's most iconic artists.
The birthday celebrations were hosted by JohnnyCash.com and also featured a question and answer session with Johnny's son John Carter, daughter Cindy, and former manager Lou Robin.
The event was held at the Fender Center & Museum in Corona, CA, home to the permanent exhibit 'Cash: An American Icon' featuring stage costumes, instruments, handwritten lyrics and other assorted Cash-related memorabilia. As part of the birthday bash, a complete collection of Johnny Cash's gold and silver discs was unveiled and Maggie Perkins, the widow of Tennessee Three guitarist Luther, presented one of her late husband's guitars.
