Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Jimi Hendrix's third studio album, released October 16th, 1968, turned 50 last week. To celebrate its half-century the album is going to be re-released as an anniversary box set via Sony Music on November 9th.

The expanded box set will give the listener a complete insight into the makings of Hendrix's final album, and will be available in the following audio formats: a three-CD/ one Blu-ray set or a six-LP/ one Blu-ray set.

Both formats of the reissue will include the original album, remastered by Bernie Grundman, outtakes, demos, a 5.1 surround sound mix by Eddie Kramer - the original engineer of Electric Ladyland - and the 1987 documentary: At Last ... the Beginning: The Making of Electric Ladyland, and more.

The box set also includes early versions of 'Voodoo Child' and 'Gypsy Eyes' as well other tracks which didn't make the original Electric Ladyland tracklist. These early takes where pulled from tapes Hendrix recorded himself while staying at Manhattan's Drake Hotel in March 1968.

The 50th anniversary edition will also feature a Linda (Eastman) McCartney photograph of the band with children at the Central Park statue of Alice In Wonderland in New York - which was Hendrix's original choice for the 1968 album cover.
