Today, October 9th, marks what would have been John Lennon's 78th birthday. Every year, in dedication to the memory of John Lennon, the Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavík, Iceland - a work of art created by Yoko Ono - switches on around an hour after sunset, lighting up the night sky from 9th October to 8th December (the day of Lennon's passing).
The tower serves as a beacon for peace, with a plaque on the tower containing Ono's dedication to her late husband:
I dedicate this light tower to John Lennon
my love for you is forever

Tonight marks the 12th time the tower will be lit.
