Earliest Colour Photograph of the Beatles Captured on This Day in 1958

On this day in 1958, a young George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney performed at Paul's cousin's wedding reception as the Quarrymen. In matching suits, they played at Paul's Auntie Gin's house on Dinah's Lane, Liverpool. It was here that budding photographer and Paul's younger brother Mike, took the first colour photo of the group, standing alongside party guest Dennis Littler.

In Mike McCartney's Early Liverpool, Mike explains that colour film would be saved for special occasions only:

'In those days colour film was very expensive so it would have been a special present from Dad to get colour film for me. We used to get Dad a £1 cigar every year for Christmas and he would have got this as my gift.' - Mike McCartney

It has since been revealed that Mike McCartney's Early Liverpool will now feature a previously unpublished second colour photo from that same evening.

With George Harrison only joining the band a month previously, this would have been one of the earliest performances from the trio, before they would go on to experience fame and success as one of the most influential bands in history.
