Bob Dylan Wins Nobel Prize in Literature

Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature today, as his work was recognised by the Swedish Academy as "having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

"Bob Dylan writes poetry for the ear, but it’s perfectly fine to read it as poetry…He is a great poet in the grand English tradition.” – Sara Danius, permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy.

Pictured left, Bob Dylan finds a quiet moment during the recording of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan in 1963 - an album that, in the words of Rolling Stone, "transformed American songwriting."
