Barry Feinstein 1931-2011

Legendary rock photographer, Barry Feinstein, has died age 80. Having suffered failing health for many years, he died of natural causes yesterday, 20th October 2011 in Kingston, New York. Feinstein had an award-winning career beginning in the Fifties and that flourished in the Sixties and Seventies as he shot iconic album covers for Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin and George Harrison. Since then his photography has been used on more than 500 album covers and published in magazines such as Life, Time and Newsweek. He was perhaps best known for his close relationship with Bob Dylan, and is responsible for some of the most iconic images of the musician ever taken.
Genesis was fortunate to work with Barry Feinstein, having published his work on several occasions. He has contributed images for many of our books, and been author on two limited editions EARLY DYLAN, in collaboration with Daniel Kramer and Jim Marshall, and REAL MOMENTS, a collection of his most celebrated images of Bob Dylan.
"I wanted my pictures to say something. I don't really like stand-up portraits; there's nothing there, no life, no feeling. I was much more interested in capturing real moments." Barry Feinstein
We would like to pass on our condolences to his family and friends.
