The 2012 Olympic games closing ceremony showcased some ofthe best of British music, including Genesis contributors Nick Mason, EricIdle, Queen, The Beatles and The Who.
Nick Mason performed Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here',during which the album sleeve was recreated by a high-wire walker. Eric Idle,who contributed to CONCERT FOR GEORGE, gave a typically whimsical rendition ofPython classic 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' featuring rollerbladingnuns.
Absent legends were not forgotten, with film footage ofFreddie Mercury followed by a performance from his bandmates Brian May andRoger Taylor. John Lennon's 'Imagine' was sung and signed by a youth choir. Thelate Beatle was brought to life through film footage remastered by Yoko Ono anda sculpture of his face formed on stage. Paul McCartney also represented thefab four in the opening ceremony.
The Who headlined the show, closing with 'My Generation' asfireworks exploded over London.
